The Maxwell St. Blues harmonica is a relatively new model in the Easttop range, and new to Sonnyboy's in March 2026. So what is it all about?

The Maxwell St. is designed to build on the success of the T008K model, but with a few upgrades. Easttop use the same reed plates, but have developed a new spot-welding system to attach the reeds, creating a tighter, more accurate fit. The reeds are phosphor bronze, welded to a bronze reedplate and fitted within an ABS comb. The covers are electroplated brass, and feel pretty solid. It all comes in a zip-up case and new style box.

But what is it like...?

It is really smooth - one or two of the older Chinese designs could have been described as having a few 'rough edges', but not this one. It feels great in the hands. At first touch it also feels very slim, and certainly feels that when you first start playing it (maybe depending upon the previous experience you have). Initial thoughts are that it may be slightly more suited to tongue blockers than pursers, but that is pretty subjective - we all have slightly different mouths!

Tuning appears good, chords sound great and it seems pretty airtight.

It is pretty loud, but maybe benefits from not being too aggressive - I found I was bending notes when I didn't intend doing it - but bear in mind that: 1. I am a VERY average player and 2. I have only just received this and have played it for about 20 minutes as I write this...

It is described as being smooth and comfortable to play, which it is. Also that it is designed for bends and overblows - I can certainly bend it pretty easily, although I can't speak about overblows - they are a little beyond me at the moment.

First impressions are that this is certainly worth a try - who knows, it may become your new favourite!
